Back To School Supplies Giveaway

Scholars received free book bags from Friends of Public School Harlem; Assemblyman Al Taylor’s community partners.

Sponsored by Assemblyman Al Taylor, the scholars of PS4 enjoyed a fun-filled back to school event! Families enjoyed bouncy houses, food, games, fun, giveaways and free backpacks with school supplies. This wonderful community event was hosted by Assemblyman Al Taylor, in partnership with The Rotary Club of Harlem and others.

Hundreds of book-bags, school supplies and other items were given away hundreds of families attended.  We so appreciate the many community organizations and representatives of our local government that took the time to show support to our scholars, teachers and staff.

NYC Schools Account

The NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) is a web-based application that lets you see your child's academic and biographic information on any computer, phone, or tablet.  The application is translated into nine languages other than English.  In the account, you can see your child's:

  • Attendance
  • Grades
  • Assessments (est scores)
  • Health information (Fitnessgram)
  • Schedule
  • Guardians
  • Enrollment history
There are two ways you can create an NYC Schools Account.  You can either visit your child's school in-person to receive a temporary password or you can use the Account Creation Code on the letter sent home with your child.

If you need support, please set up an appointment with the Parent Coordinator, Ms. Nunez.  You'll need to provide her with a valid photo ID.  She will go through the process of setting up a temporary password for your new account.

If you have your Account Creation Code that was sent home with your child, simply log.  If you have not received the letter, please request one by sending a letter to your child's teacher.  To log on, click here.

Donated Book Bags Go To PS4 Scholars

Mr. Cantu with students who received donated book bags filled with school supplies.
As the school year begins, many organization are giving away school supplies and book bags to support learners all over New York City.  Our very own Dr. Thomas, currently teaching 4th grade, recently brought the needs of many of our scholars to the attention of Jason Cohen, Executive Vice President & General Counsel at Diamond Resorts International! Along with Jennifer Wellington, another kind donor, more than fifty students received a brand new book bag filled with school supplies.

From the Desk of Chancellor Carmen Fariña

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  Thanks to the hard work of our educators, administrators, students, and families, we are beginning this school year on a celebratory note:
These achievements should put more of our students on the path to success after high school.

Yet, while these are steps in the right direction, we know that we have more work to do. Last fall, Mayor de Blasio and I announced our vision of Equity and Excellence for All, as we believe that every child—from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade—should be on a path to college and a meaningful career. Since then, our educators and administrators have been hard at work implementing the foundation of this new vision, and soon, parents, teachers, and students will see the impact of our work in classrooms across the City this school year.

These are truly exciting times for all of us at the DOE, and I am thrilled that we will be able to share news of our progress right here on this site. So keep an eye out for The Morning Bell, and stay up-to-date about our schools.

On behalf of the DOE, I wish all of our students, educators, parents, and partners a joyful and successful school year.  Click here for the new NYC DOE blog.

Sincerely,

Carmen Fariña
Chancellor, NYC Department of Education
