Saving the Circus Musical

The cast of Saving the Circus poses after their debut performance.

The Little Top Circus has come to PS4 and we loved every minute of it!  Students, teachers, parents and community members of our school enjoyed three performances of the musical, written by our very own Ms. Batts.  Our first-year drama teacher wrote the lyrics and directed this excited musical, with all characters performed by our talented scholars, called 'Saving The Circus'! Here's the synopsis:

Three students’ dreams come true when they are chosen to join the circus for the day, but they soon learn that circus life is not all fun and games. The Little Top’s rival, the Mega Top Circus, is back in town to stay, and the Mega Top’s director, Regina Fortier, is determined to run the Little Top out of business. In an effort to save her circus, the Little Top’s director, Carmen Powers, commands the performers to try harder to compete with the Mega Top. The performers get to work, but trying so hard to be something they’re not makes them miserable.
The students from PS4 convince the performers to embrace their unique qualities and be true to themselves in their acts. The clowns get in touch with their intelligence, the acrobats practice their own moves, and the animal trainers treat their animals with kindness. The result is a one-of-a-kind show that impresses everyone - even Regina Fortier. The kids learn that they don’t have to be the center of attention in order to be stars; they can shine just by helping others find their light.

Congratulations to Ms. Batts, Mr. Means (musical director) and the many actors that made this musical a success!  Click the link below, to see photos and videos from this Spring musical!

Photo of the Week: June 8-12, 2015

Photo of Nathan M. as he performs at the 2015 Talent Show.
The Photo of the Week was taken by Ms. Lennon from backstage at the 9th annual PS4 Talent Show!  The Talent Show is not only a big fundraiser for our school, it is a major event for the PS4M community.  Taking the stage are student musicians, comedians, dancers, vocalists, actors and even poets.  Nathan M. (Class 501-Ms. Wilson) has been sharing his love of poetry since the 3rd grade.  This year he graduates with honors and shared William Shakespeare's famous soliloquy from Hamlet.  "To be or not to be....that is the question", is the way Nathan eloquently began his performance in front of an audience of nearly 300 guests.  Special thanks to Mr. Cantu (his Talent/Peotry Coach) for keeping poetry alive at PS4M.

Spring Concert Highlights

Yesterday, the talented boys and girls of the Guitar Program and PS4 Choir showed their skills to a full audience in the school's auditorium.  Sponsored by Midori & Friends, these two clubs entertained more than 250 guests!  In the very beginning of the show, an awesome collaboration of singers and guitar players took place as the audience heard the song I Got A Feelin', by the Black Eyed Peas.  The highlight of the evening was a performance from a talented violist named Tobias Roth who simply wanted to share his love of classical music with the Washington Heights community.  To find out more about the viola, click here!

Special thanks to Tobias Roth (violist), Nick Russo (guitarist), Ms. Lennon (host), and all who supported our Spring Concert.  Congratulations to the boys and girls who performed and had a successful show.

On June 24th, PS4 will host its fourth annual talent show! "We have a good mix of performers. This year's talent show will have singers, dancers, comedians, acrobatics and even Shakespeare monologues." Says Ms. Lennon, the school librarian who is helping to produce this year's talent show, "I think people are going to be quite surprised at the type of talent that we have here at PS4." The show will be hosted by Mr. Harris, the school's social studies teacher, and will take place in the school's auditorium.
