After some words of wisdom from Principal Stevens, Ms. Williams (Assistant Principal), and Special Guest Mr. Carlos Castillo (Ambassador of the Dominican Republic, selected students were given awards for their academic achievement.  Family members and friends of each graduate enjoyed performances and musical selections by our scholars.  The highlight of the ceremony was the conferring of the diplomas.

Kindergarten Graduation - 2018 (VIDEO)

Principal Stevens and Ms. Martin (Assistant Principal) pose with a graduating kindergarten student from K01.

After a few introductory remarks from Principal Stevens, students in all kindergarten classes entertained family members and special guests by singing 'How Far I'll Go'.  The lyrics of this famous song, from the movie Moana, were written by Lin Manuel-Miranda.  In the movie, Moana was ready to follow her dreams, and live the life that was meant for her.  She just needed to take the first step.  After a round of applause, our young scholars received their diplomas and joined family members, teachers and administrators in the gymnasium for refreshments.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten students who have taken a big step in their education!  Thank you to all of the family members that attended graduation ceremonies.  We look forward to seeing you in September.  Click below, to see the slideshow that was shown at the graduation ceremony, created by Ms. Luisa (Assistant Teacher) and edited by Mr. Means (Music Teacher)

Middle School Application Process

Ms. Estrella, PS4's Guidance Counselor, meets with parents of 5th graders to discuss the Middle School application process.
The deadline for Middle School applications is December 1st!  Parents of 5th grade students will soon receive applications from our school's Guidance Counselor, Ms. Estrella.  She has been meeting with parents weekly to answer questions they may have about the application process and encourage them to make the best choice for their child.  The transition from elementary to middle school is an important moment in every adolescent’s life. This is an opportunity for parent and children to come together to determine what middle school experience is right for their family and how they can plan together for the big changes ahead.

For more information about he Middle School process, contact Ms. Estrella by calling the main office or sending an email to aestrel@schools.nyc.gov.  Click here for the 2018 NYC District 6 Middle School Directory and go to schools.nyc.gov/middle for more information on the application process.

Open Airways for Schools Graduates Five Asthma Leaders From PS4

Elementary school children can learn to manage their own asthma when they participate in the American Lung Association's Open Airways For Schools program. It teaches children with asthma (ages 8-11) how to detect the warning signs of asthma, avoid their triggers and make decisions about their health.

At PS4, LaMyah I. (Class 320), Mia R. (Class 401), Jeremy N. (Class 401), Danny W. (Class 323), and Jeremy F. (Class 402) recently completed the 5-week training session. They met on Friday’s at 2pm in the Medical Room for classes and were active participants in the sessions. With the active support of our very own school nurse, they did some role-playing and demonstrations! Some of their assignments were to take information home to their parents. "It was educational and fun", says Nurse Frere when asked to describe the program.

On Friday, January 28th, all five students graduated and became official Asthma Leaders. The ceremony was held in the school's auditorium with members of each student's family and PS4 staff (including Mr. Polubiec, Assistant Principal). Graduation certificates were issued and each child received a cinch bag filled with surprises.
