Eat Well Be Well - Parent Workshop

Mr. Fuentes, PS4's Bilingual Social Worker gives parents suggestions on how to eat well and be well.
At a recent Nutrition Workshop for parents, our Bilingual Social Worker Frank Fuentes gave parents tips on how to buy healthy food that will keep your wallet happy and foods that children should be eating in the  morning.  Parents were also invited to visit the Inwood Farmer's Market directly after the workshop.

Mr. Fuentes reminded parents that there’s no great secret to healthy eating.  Here are some suggestions to help your children and family develop healthy eating habits:

  • Provide plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain products.
  • Include low-fat or non-fat milk or dairy products.
  • Choose lean meats, poultry, fish, lentils, and beans for protein.
  • Serve reasonably-sized portions.
  • Encourage your family to drink lots of water.
  • Limit sugar-sweetened beverages.
  • Limit consumption of sugar and saturated fat.
Remember that small changes every day can lead to a recipe for success! For more information about nutrition, click here for the Center for Disease Control's website or visit ChooseMyPlate.gov.
